第一章
Imagine what our world would be like if all employees of all businesses were given the permission to care about not just their job but also their fellow employees, their customers, and the cause they are most passionate about in life.

How can we take what might be a decent-enough organizational culture, which you might call a Culture of OK, and transform it into a Culture of Good?

You can do good while you work and that good can drive your bottom line.

When we have shared purpose, we find that our success becomes greater.

第二章
How can you take the pain of your past and use it as a way to discover your calling and purpose?

Where do you find your happiness?

If you are a leader of your organization, have you surrounded yourself with clones or with people who are different from you?

第三章
A Culture of Good: Three areas of Philanthropy
1. #TCCRocks Day
2. Two days off per year to volunteer
3. Round up to donate to local charities

Nothing builds employee engagement like shared values.
16 hours of paid volunteer time per year
Make the world better for their customers
Work at a place where they felt like they made a real difference in the world.

The Fortune Cookies
It doesn't really cost much to win the hearts and minds of your people. That notion was implanted even deeper a few months later when we had the first really big win in our Culture of Good efforts.

第四章
Creating a special moment - The Backpack giveaway
Hitting the sweet spot
  • When community matters - we support the people in the communities
  • When customers matter - we provide them with outstanding service and sincere care
  • When employees matter - we create a culture that inspires and motivates people to reach their full potential while also being a part of the company's greater purpose
Understand why you do what you do.
Trust our employees to do good themselves.
Opportunity isn't always convient.

第五章 Cause Matters
We created more activities and encouraged people to get involved
  • Teachers Rock Supply Giveaway
  • Heal the World Environmental Campaign
  • School Rocks Backpack Giveaway
  • Stop the Hunger Campaign

What we learned about why cause matters:

As we began to grow and add more stores and new people around the country, we began to lose sight of that. We began to look at our spreadsheets more than into our hearts. We almost lost our soul.

That would have been a great way to get our partners to commit to a shared vision with us and also get them engaged in doing good while at the same time sharing in the financial investment to make it all work.

Kicking off a Culture of Good doesn't mean you have to come up with new funding sources.

By doing it differently, we would have embraced the idea of the Culture of Good from day one, as opposed to creating something ourselves and then asking our employees to join in.

You know you have found something special.

第六章 Making Employees Better
Once you understand why you do what you do, the next step is identifying who in your organization should be given the permission to care.

When you can come to work every day and it satisfies your soul.
I am very grateful to be a part of this team.
I had a gut feeling that I wouldn't be happy there, so I joined TCC with Culture of Good.
This is a company that cares and strives to be each and every day.
Find work that meaning something, work with a greater purpose that makes a difference.
Be part of something greater than yourself.

Think about the timeless story of the three bricklayers: A man comes upon a construction site where three people are working, and asked "What are you doing?"
First replied: "I am laying bricks."
Second replied: "I am building a wall."
Third replied: "I am building a cathedral!"

You care about each other as much as you care about community.

第七章  Making Customers Better
Simply listening to customers differently
Doing good in our community
A place for me to take time, do it right, and be passionate about what I do.
If you could connect your customers to your cause, would that be a value proposition for your company?

第八章 Finding Your Company's Soul
Building your culture of Good
  1. Identify your cause
    • Does your cause align with your company's strategic vision?
    • How is it authentic?
    • Why does it matter to your employees?
    • Why does it matter to your customers?
  2. Connect it to your employess
    • How will you build your plan for how your employees can connect to your cause?
    • How will you weave your cause into how you interview, hire, onboard, train, retain, inspire, and compensate?
    • What will you do to continue to communicate the cause to your employees?
    • What will you do to ensure that employees have permission to care so they can discover their calling?
  3. Connect your cause to your customers
    • How can you use your culture and your cause to gain and retain customers?
    • How can you encourage your employees to take pride in telling your customers about your cause?
    • What can you communicate to your customers to let them know they have a role to play in fulfilling your cause?
Lesson learned from the journey that might be helpful
  1. Tap the wisdom of the crowd - get more leaders involved
  2. Prioritize communication
  3. Automate, automate, automate
  4. Plan long term
What the real goal was or why someone should do it.
Your company soul is the inner circle where your cause, your employees and your customers intersect.
We started doing it because it just felt like the right thing to do.
If you want to improve something, you need to track and measure it.
Makes me a better version of myself and gives me reasons every day to keep falling in love.

Leave the world better than you found it.
